From Nogales to Magdalena

En diciembre de 2009 algunos rumores comenzaron a circular acerca de la existencia de un disco solista de Brandon Flowers; aunque al principio esto fue negado por los representantes de The Killers y por el mismo Flowers. En enero de 2010 The Killers anunciaron que descansarían después del segmento australiano y asiático de la gira de su album Day & Age; así lo confimaría más tarde el guitarrista Dave Keuning, al apuntar que ya llevaban 6 años sin parar de tocar y que necesitaban un poco de tiempo libre. Sin embargo, debido a circunstancias imprevistas que implicaban la enfermedad grave de un familiar cercano de un miembro del grupo, una serie de fechas fueron pospuestas. Posteriormente se supo que la madre de Flowers murió de cáncer cerebral el 11 de febrero de 2010.

Después de eso, apareció en la página oficial de The Killers una cuenta regresiva algo misteriosa, y enseguida Flowers confirmó el 29 de abril 2010 el lanzamiento de su disco en solitario titulado Flamingo.

El álbum se llama así por el Flamingo Casino & Flamingo Road de Las Vegas, ciudad natal de Brandon Flowers; estos sitios están en la misma calle donde se localiza el Sam's Town Casino, zonas de la ciudad donde el cantante pasó mucho tiempo de su niñez.

En una entrevista para la revista NME en mayo de 2010, Flowers dijo que el disco fue producido por Stuart Price, Daniel Lanois y Brendan O'Brien. También dijo que en la canción "Hard Enough" hace dueto con la vocalista de Rilo Kiley, la pelirroja y muy guapa Jenny Lewis.

Crossfire — primer sencillo a promocionar del Flamingo, apareció por primera vez cuando se filtró en internet el 12 de junio de 2010. El 14 de junio se estrenó en el Reino Unido en el programa de Zane Lowe en la BBC Radio 1, donde Flowers también dio una entrevista en la que declaró que Ronnie Vannucci — baterista de The Killers, es quien toca la batería en este corte, aprovechando que en ocasiones estuvo presente en las sesiones de grabación del Flamingo. También dijo que de todo el disco, Crossfire es la canción favorita de su hijo Ammon.
